This position offers the opportunity to be involved in both daily championship-level conditioning and future renovation/improvement projects.

    Description

    General Summary
    This position works under the direct supervision of the Golf Maintenance Manager to lead a team of seasonal/contractual workers in maintenance and repair of the equipment and grounds of Palmer Hills Golf Course and assists with snow removal.

    Primary Responsibilities and Duties

    Assigns, oversees and participates in the work of a small crew on the golf course involved in the maintenance and repair of the grounds, equipment, and facilities. Assists with training and orientation of seasonal/contractual staff.

    • Operates golf equipment. (Mowers, turf equipment, chemical sprayer, trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, plows, repairs and maintains irrigation and drainage systems, etc.
    • Assists in the maintenance of the grounds, equipment, and facilities, and with construction projects.
    • Assists with the inspection of work in progress to ensure confirmation with instructions.
    • Assists with records keeping.
    • Assists with ensuring that all materials, tools and supplies needed to complete assigned work are available.
    • Conducts routine maintenance and repair of light engine equipment to ensure proper functioning and longevity.
    • Participates in plowing snow, spreads de-icing material, loads salt, hooks up and removes snow removal equipment.
    • Top dresses and aerifies greens, tees, and fairways, and applies pesticides and fertilizers to the golf turf.
    • Works a variable schedule that includes weekends and potential split shifts.
    • Assists with the duties of the Golf Course Manager in their absence.
    • Recommends disciplinary action for seasonal staff, assigns tasks and handles scheduling of season staff. Identifies short- and long-term projects and tasks.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Education
    Requires extensive knowledge of golf course mowing operations, turf maintenance, landscape maintenance, equipment and mechanical maintenance and repair, and tree planting and maintenance. Requires a level of knowledge normally acquired with the successful completion of high school or equivalent GED certificate. Requires the successful completion of the Civil Service examination and meeting additional requirements as stated in the Code of Iowa. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s license preferred. Basic computer skills, typing, and basic proficiency in Microsoft Word. Prefer candidates to possess current Iowa Pesticide Applicators Certification or must obtain within six months of employment and maintain throughout duration of employment.

    Experience
    Requires a minimum of three (3) years of hands-on professional experience in golf course turfgrass management, including maintenance of trees, greens, fairways, and roughs, with responsibilities such as mowing, irrigation management, fertilization, pest and disease control and overall course conditioning to ensure optimal playability and appearance.

    Interpersonal Skills
    Requires a level of interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with co-workers, other City employees, contractors, local residents, and golf course patrons.

    Analytical Skills
    Requires the ability to operate, repair, and maintain various golf course equipment in such a manner as to prevent injury to self, co-workers, property and equipment. Requires good knowledge of golf course maintenance procedures and activities.

    Working Conditions
    Requires extensive standing, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and lifting of various agricultural supplies and equipment, or components ranging in weight from under 1 pound to over 100 pounds. Performs majority of work assignments outdoors where weather conditions range from mild to severe. Exposed to chemicals when spraying.

    Position Schedule
    Five (5) days/week all year (subject to change), varied hours (including weekend mornings). Current schedule is Sunday-Thursday during golf season. Monday through Friday during the winter season. On call snow plowing during winter months.

    Summary

    Description:

    Hillcrest Country Club is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Assistant Superintendent. Hillcrest is a 9-hole private club located just outside Adel, Iowa and about 10-15mins for Waukee, Iowa. We are currently working on executing a long-range plan that includes, bunker renovation, building new tee complexes, new practice facilities, new #9 green, and maintenance facility. We will also be installing new pump station this fall. With all these course improvements we are seeking a motivated individual to help lead staff.

    West Grand Golf Driving Range & Miniature Golf, located in West Des Moines, IA, is seeking a Driving Range/Turf Maintenance Position to maintain our driving range/miniature golf facility. Looking for a person with hands-on experience in turf maintenance, irrigation, and equipment care.

    Qualifications & Requirements:

    Experience:

    • Prior golf course maintenance experience preferred but not required.

    Skills & Responsibilities:

    • Maintain the driving range.
    • Oversee daily maintenance operations, including mowing, watering, and landscaping.
    • Manage and maintain irrigation and drainage systems.
    • Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides as needed.

    Crow Valley Golf Club in Davenport, Iowa is excited to announce the opportunity of Assistant – In – Training. The desired candidate will be involved in implementing BMP and IPM programs that provide excellent playing conditions, as well as helping create an enthusiastic atmosphere that nurtures team members.

    Located just minutes from the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities, Crow Valley is a private, family-friendly club designed by John Cochran. Founded in 1970, Crow Valley has routinely hosted a number of amateur events and consists of Bent/Poa greens, tees and fairways that wind through multiple neighborhoods. The chosen candidate will be instrumental in implementing phase one of a large-scale renovation that includes: a full irrigation and bunker redesign, 7 greens complexes getting rebuilt and 6 tee complexes getting rebuilt. The club has also committed to additional golf course improvement projects in the upcoming years.

    Position Summary:

    In collaboration with the golf course management team, the assistant – in – training helps direct staff and participates in the maintenance and daily preparation of the golf course.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Motivates and directs staff on a daily basis.
    • Trains new staff on standard operating procedures and safe operation of all equipment.
    • Assists in the daily set up and maintenance of all areas, of golf course grounds with an emphasis on greens, tees and fairways.
    • Involved in all aspects of IPM and BMP programs including fertilizer and pesticide calibration and applications and daily moisture management.
    • Participate in the operation, maintenance, and installation of irrigation and drainage systems, and in the operation and maintenance of pumps.

    Education:

    High School Diploma required. Higher education degree in Turf Management, Agronomy or Horticulture preferred. Must obtain any required local and state licenses or certifications.

    Experience:

    Previous maintenance experience in golf operations required. A minimum of two years’ experience in the golf industry. Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course greens, tees and fairways.

    Skills:

    Ability to communicate effectively with managers and other employees in one-on-one and small group situations in a fast-paced environment. Must be computer literate. Must be able to perform basic math computations essential for fertilizer and chemical calibrations, budgeting and cost analysis purposes.

    Benefits:

    A complete benefits package will be offered with this position. Those benefits will include a housing opportunity from April through end of November, 401K program, Health, Dental and Vision insurance, Meals, PTO, Local and National Dues and expenses paid for attending seminars.

    Salary:

    $22/Hour

    With an expectation of ample overtime to help the candidate reach $50,000-$60,000
